For the past number of years, Out in UL have worked closely with Limerick Pride to ensure the students have a contribution to the biggest queer event in Limerick’s calendar. In 2009, we ran the hugely successful event Mr. Gay Limerick. In 2010, we hosted a treasure hunt around Limerick City, followed by a BBQ in 31 Thomas Street. In 2011, we created the ‘Love Diversity’ mural on the Post Office Lane (which you can see below), and also hosted a trip to the roller derby.
As well as hosting an annual event, we take part in the parade as a group every year.
In 2012 we hosted The Secrets Party. Inspired by PostSecret.com, we collected hundreds of secrets which were posted over the walls of Baker Place. It was a huge success and everyone who attended learned that it doesn’t matter who you are or who you love, we are all connected by our secrets.
